Elijah Hughes, the 26-year-old American guard/forward, will be joining Promitheas Patras for the upcoming 2024-25 season, marking his first time playing in Europe. Hughes, who stands at 198 cm (6'6"), has had a diverse basketball career, having played for several teams in the NCAA, NBA, and G League.
He began his collegiate career in the 2016-17 season with the East Carolina Pirates, where he averaged 7.8 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. He then transferred to Syracuse Orange, where he played from 2018 to 2020. During the 2018-19 season, he posted averages of 13.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. His best season came in 2019-20, with averages of 19.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game.
Hughes entered the NBA with the Utah Jazz for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons. In his rookie season, he averaged 1.9 points, 0.6 rebounds, and 0.3 assists in 16 games. He also played for the Salt Lake City Stars in the G League, where he averaged 14.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists in five games during the 2020-21 season. In the following season with the Stars, he improved his performance to 18.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists over nine games.
In the latter part of the 2021-22 season, Hughes joined the Portland Trail Blazers, appearing in 22 games and averaging 3.8 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 0.7 assists per game. He then moved to the Wisconsin Herd in the G League, where he played for two seasons from 2022 to 2024. In the 2022-23 season, Hughes averaged 14.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists over 36 games. In the following season, he posted averages of 10.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists over 43 games.
